Our two year Fashion Design program is designed for students grades 9-11, recent graduates, and community college students who would like to increase their chances of acceptance in the finest fashion design institutions.
Students will gain a solid foundation for design as it relates to fashion, fashion design and sewing skills as well as training towards collection development.
Year 1- Fashion Design: Foundations focuses on the studies of design elements and principles, the creative process, design experimentations in 2D Textile, and essential skill development in, figure, gesture, and figure drawing for fashion
This foundation year consists of two semesters of Core Design along with a semester each of Figure Drawing and Figure Drawing For Fashion. Foundation design students will develop a portfolio of their drawings and design sketches, representing their skills and artistic potential.
Year 2- Fashion Design: Design and Collection Development
In this year students will apply their understanding of fundamental design to Fashion Design Studies. They will learn about the history and trends in the fashion industry, research approaches, materials, construction and fabric knowledge. The programs’ focus is to help students understand how fashion designers formulate, develop, and implement a collection. In semester one of this second year students will take Fashion Design and Digital Lab. Students will continue to add drawing and design pieces to their portfolios. Semester two of year 2 students will take Collection Development and Sewing. Students learn Digital Textile and Pattern making, cut and draping couture bodice. This 2nd year course is designed for only students who have completed Fashion Design:Foundations.
