At Stone Branch School of Art we offer a wide range of  long term classes as well short session classes and workshops.

             Convenient  payment options available.

Tuition per semester : $1180 ( includes all materials)tuition will be prorated based on number of classes at time of admission. Installment arrangements are available.  Short term classes ( Those scheduled with 10 or less classes) are priced accordingly.

Figure Drawing

Tues 6:45-8:45  Level II  

Sat. 1-3pm Level I

Teens/adults

Students learn basic observation and measuring skills, the stages of drawing the structure and planes of the figure, and how to clearly render values of light and shadow.

Portrait Drawing

Wed. 6:45-8:45  Level II  

Sat. 3:30-5:30  Level I  

17 weeks 

Teens/adults

Students learn the basic  structure and planes of the head and how to utilize perspective for drawing the head accurately. Students learn how to clearly render values of light and shadow.

Foundation Drawing

Teens/adults

Students learn the techniques and methods used to create the illusion of the three dimensional world on a two dimensional surface. Emphasis is on line, value, shape and use of  classic measuring techniques

Youth/Jr. Teen Core Classes

Our programs provide artistic and life enhancing skills to students of all skill levels. Through one-to-one mentoring, in small class settings, we provide opportunities for each student to use their unique abilities. Attention is given not only to cultivating  skills for creative expression but also for those used for enhanced, communication, emotional, and interpersonal relationship development and leadership building.

Beginning /Intermediate 

Foundation Drawing

8 Week Session

This 8 week class is designed to build  students' confidence with  drawing what they see. Students learn fundamental skills , accurate measuring, placement and shading using various drawing tools  Students with no or some drawing skills will be comfortable in this class. Students with intermediate level skills will be challenged with new ways to refine the skills they have been using.   Sr. Discount 60+

Relief Sculpture in Clay

Wed. 1:00-3pm

8 weeks

Get your hands dirty in this low-relief sculpture class. Also known as Bas-relief, this sculpting technique uses  a panel of clay  to raise the figures or designs above the surface. We will look at historic relief sculpture from around the world  but will apply your own artistic ideas to your works.

Time allowing, we will also cover casting techniques for creating multiples of your sculpture.

Observational Drawing 

Sat 3:30-5:30pm

Students advance  their observation,   measuring skills, how to clearly render the subtle values of light and shadow. Concepts of composition and narrative construction in still life are covered.

Conceptual Drawing and Design

Tue 6:45-8:45 (Semi Private)

17 weeks

 This portfolio level course is designed to assist students in creating works of art that are stylistic, expressive  and reflect their inner voices and passions.  Composition, color theory and narrative construct will be covered. Previous experience with portrait and figure drawing highly recommended.

Portfolio Studio

 

3 hrs weekly ( Semi Private)

Day and time: By arrangement with portfolio mentor

This session is designed to provide additional studio time for students working on portfolios. Generally students are enrolled in one or more studio classes along with this session.

Students work independently in the studio with the oversight of a Portfolio Mentor.

COMIC CHARACTER DRAWING

6 sessions

This course is a 5 week class that will add to your understanding of character design and drawing. Recommended for students who have completed our Comic Foundations class or students with good drawing skills and general understanding of the figure.

COMIC I- Foundations

Tues 4:30-6:30

   5th grade+ 

Learn all the fundamentals for drawing the figure, animals and the environment better confidence in creating comics.

This class delves deeper into the creation of good comics. Page layout, panel progression and story development are covered.

This course is a 8 week class

This is the perfect introduction  for adults  who are interested in learning techniques for drawing their own comics. Sequential storytelling and character development techniques will be covered as well as  panel progressions, composition, page layout and a range of different styles of illustration and inking.  This is a great course for those who want to learn or refine work on a graphic story.

Drawing Nature for Nature Journaling

10 weeks

 

We assume that we are naturally good observers, but learning to really see is a skill that must be learned and developed. In this 10 week class we will learn fundamental observational techniques for  basic nature drawing, from botany to bugs. We will explore a variety of materials for use in creating beautiful nature journals

Relief Printmaking

Tues. 6:45-8:45

This course is an introduction to fundamental techniques 

for relief printing. Students will design and learn carving skills with wood and linoleum. Students will learn inking and printing techniques and will be able to produce a 

small single color edition of prints.
