Stone Branch School of Arts is committed to supporting creative young minds in our community. In that spirit we are hosting a juried exhibition featuring Middle School Students’ Art inspired by or depicting the meaning of Justice.
The exhibition will hang at the school’s Open Space Art Gallery, with a special opening reception and awards ceremony.
We look forward to hearing your voices and seeing your visions.
This exhibition is open to students attending Middle Schools in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia
EXHIBIT DETAILS: “JUSTICE…IN MY EYES”
THEME: All artwork entries MUST depict or be inspired by the artist’s interpretation of JUSTICE.
MEDIA: Works on Paper: Drawing, printmaking, computer generated art; chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayons; inks and washes applied by pen or brush. Photography: Color or black and white. Mixed Media: 2- and 3-dimensional works incorporating more than one type of material in their production, including assemblage and collage. Sculpture: Including wood, metal, stone, glass, mosaics, ceramics, fiber, and recycled materials.
ENTRY IMAGES: Submit digital images (photos) of the actual artwork(s) to be considered for acceptance into the juried exhibition. An artist may submit up to 3 works. Submissions should be high quality (300 dpi) jpeg’s, maximum 2 MB per image. Remember to put artist’s LAST NAME and ARTWORK TITLE when saving image files to submit. Example (Jenkins- Rainfall-.jpg ... not image001.jpg). For three-dimensional pieces, please include images of all sides.
AWARDS: Works are judged by grade/age categories, Artists from each grade (6,7, and 8th) will be awarded First, Second, and Third Place, other recognitions/awards maybe offered to additional works based on special qualities evident in the work.
FIRST PLACE: One-Week Summer Art Camp at SBSA
SECOND PLACE: One- Month Free Drawing Lessons (School Year)
THIRD PLACE: One Three-Hour Family workshop (Student and one parent)
JURORS: Individuals involved in the selection process include, professional artists, art educators, art administrators, art collectors.
SUBMISSION FEE: $15 processing fee for up to 3 works per-student. There is a fee of $5.00 for each additional submission.

DISPLAY SPECIFICATIONS & GUIDELINES:
We require that all 2-D artwork must be frames and wired across the back as follows:
Small art works must be framed in the following frame measurements:
8”X 10” (-Minimum size allowed)- 8 ½” X 11” - 9”X12” -11”X14”- 16”X20”-20”X24”-Maximum size allowed 30”x40” framed.
DRAWINGS: matted if needed and framed with glass & wired across the back for
Hanging 3” down from the top of the frame.
PAINTINGS: framed but no glass or matt needed (sectional frames are fine) & wired across the back for hanging 5” below the top of the frame.
DIGITAL PRINTS: must be framed with glass (mats are optional) & wired
across the back for hanging 3” down from the top of the back of the frame.
PHOTOGRAPHY: must be framed with glass (mats are optional) & wired
across the back for hanging 3” below the top of the back of the frame.
3D POTTERY AND SCULPTURE: must be designed in such way that can be displayed on a pedestal—limit size12x12x18” and weight 15lb.
Artworks are to be dropped off at OpenSpace Gallery of Art/ adjacent to Stone Branch School of Art. Only drop off framed, wired and labeled pieces as specified above.
All works must be submitted on April 7th and 8th 10am-6pm. No late works will be accepted.
Artwork must be picked up from SBSA between May 9th- May 12-10am-8pm (there is a storage fee of $10.00 per day for works that are not picked up after May12).
ARTWORK Copy: Each work submitted must be accompanied with 2 Completed copies of the label . (Please print and complete).
